The corporate environment is often full of demands and tasks, which can lead to a lot of stress and mental fatigue. Did you know that on average 70% of employees complain about their health and finances? And more than 201,000,000 spend five hours a week thinking about these stressors during working hours.
We know that every company is looking for employees who are committed to the company's development. However, those employees who describe themselves as stressed have pointed out in a survey carried out by the American insurance company Colonial Life that they feel 41% less productive, 33% less engaged and 15% even say they are looking for a new job.
Employees are often affected in their work due to the impact on their mental health. Among these is burnout syndrome, which since January 2022 has been classified as an occupational disease in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), according to the WHO. Brazil is the second country in terms of the number of cases of burnout, indicating that chronic stress is a consequence of excessive workload, too many responsibilities or living with too much competitiveness and pressure for results.
It's a shot in the foot for the companies themselves, since poorly managed stress can lead to serious health conditions for employees and cost employers dearly in terms of health care costs, absenteeism, loss of productivity and turnover.
And how can these professionals be helped to avoid all these issues with just one tool?
Mindfulness is an aid that has been providing great improvements in focus, concentration, improved brain activity, increased creativity and other positive characteristics with its adherence in the corporate environment.
Neuroscience is studying how mindfulness can really help. In our central nervous system there is a region in the brain called the amygdala, which processes emotions and controls motivation, which in turn has a close relationship between the cerebral amygdala and anxiety disorders. Scientific studies have shown that the practice of meditation promotes structural and functional changes in this brain area, reducing its activity and consequently facilitating emotional balance and anxiety control.
In short, mindfulness is the practice of paying full attention to the present moment. Its techniques can be applied in any environment, including the company, as an excellent tool for productivity and performance, because as well as providing well-being for employees, it will reverberate in institutional growth. The technique itself is capable of generating a series of physical and psychological responses that help prevent numerous conditions, including stress, managing established health problems and promoting mental health. In this way, mindfulness is an activity that can be used in a therapeutic context, as long as the conditions and peculiarities of the situation being treated are respected.
Do you also want to provide qualitative moments for your employees and consequently greater profitability? Choosing a good mindfulness professional is one of the ways to generate more engagement and make meetings run more smoothly. All members of the Flow of Life team have at least one year's training. In our almost ten years as a pioneering School of Mindfulness, we have a method that naturally and simplistically encourages the insertion of meditation into the corporate routine, transforming lives, people and purposes.
