How White January can make us reflect on mental health

The White January campaign was formulated for the first month of the year in order to take advantage of this moment of reflection, planning and idealization linked to the symbolism of a fresh start. As such, the campaign's main objective is to discuss the importance of mental health and caring for emotions, so that practices can be adopted to improve the quality of thoughts and the management of emotions, even in the face of the pandemic scenario we are experiencing.

Highlighting the need for care and prevention for the mind is just as important as care for the body, since our entire physical constitution is interconnected and needs continuous attention, and Mindfulness is a tool that allows us to fully realize this self-observation. Furthermore, this methodology can be extended to individual mental conditions.

However, this month was chosen intentionally to draw attention to the fact that when the year comes to a close, some people feel more anxious and worried about not having achieved all the goals they had set themselves. However, in order to start the first month of the year in a light and healthy way, one of the priorities to focus on is emotional and mental health, as this affects all other sectors of life, whether in a positive way or not.

With this in mind, the Ministry of Health has published some important guidelines to help us improve our quality of life:

- Set aside time for healthy interpersonal relationships;

-Enjoy family time;

-Maintain a healthier diet;

-Strengthen bonds of friendship;

- Get a good night's sleep;

- Seek professional help when necessary;

Do endorphin-releasing activities (such as physical activity).

In addition, the purpose of the White January campaign is to explore discussions on the subject of mental health, thereby reducing the prejudices that persist in society in relation to psychiatric treatments, thus breaking down paradigms that are structurally installed by society, in a didactic way encouraging the search for treatments and preventive methods for possible psychological illnesses.
