Select effective practices that improve team engagement, develop companies and purpose

According to data presented by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Brazil is the most anxious country in the world with 9.3% of the anxious population, and the second largest in the Americas with depression, with this disease affecting 5.8% of the population.́ ́ Given this alarming data, why is taking care of mental health not a focus for Brazilians?

Weakness, "mimimi" and "freshness" are adjectives that are still widely used by prejudiced people who call people with mental disorders mentally ill. These "statements" unconsciously hinder the search for treatment and preventive methods for these anxious and depressed people, and consequently aggravate their illness. The employees of a company are what drives the organization forward, because people transform the environment. In view of this aggravating data, what methods can we apply to work teams, who are the body of the company?

Before answering this question, we must identify what the problems are and how they are affecting people. Exposure to information overload, distractions, negativity and stress in the workplace has become a major challenge to resolve, as the quality of productivity and service delivery has dropped dramatically; and this factor influences everyone involved. 

For example; 

The average worker manages 120 messages a day, switches screens 37 times an hour and is interrupted every 3 minutes;

  Attention deficit is a major epidemic in the workplace, with symptoms of distraction, disorganization and impatience;

37% of management time is spent mediating conflicts, 98% of workers have experienced conflicts recently and 23% are continuously exposed to them;

56% of workers report current exposure to a toxic manager and 35% have experienced verbal abuse, intimidation or humiliation by a supervisor.

Given that stress at work has become a major epidemic and that society seems to be more tired and unwilling, the prescription of anxiolytic drugs has become quite common. And companies are feeling the effects in terms of lower profitability, performance and creativity. But in addition to this loss of quality in professional life, personal life is also affected. But all is not lost: our minds have the capacity to be reprogrammed and reinterpret data, thoughts, emotions and feelings. 

In order to improve team engagement, exercises should be implemented that add value in various areas of this group's life. Among these methods, breathing, focus and mindfulness techniques are excellent for personal development, such as self-knowledge and professional development, helping to highlight existing qualities or developing them, improving the health of the physical, psychological and social body.
