October 10th is Mental Health Day, more than just a date, it's a reminder that mental health is a serious matter and should be treated with more empathy.
It was instituted in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health to draw attention to the importance of diagnosing, preventing and treating mental health problems that are present in society today.
How is your mental health?
We believe that taking care of the health of body and mind is for every month, especially in the current context.
And this can happen through small attitudes, self-knowledge and dialog.
Mindfulness is a self-knowledge tool that can help us realize how we are and when it's time to ask for help, because through mindfulness we can access our physical and mental state in order to understand how we are in the present moment. Have you observed yourself today?
Identifying this is the first step towards making a change and/or realizing the right moment to ask for specialist help.
The percentage of people with depression during the pandemic jumped from 4.2% to 8.0% and anxiety from 8.7% to 14.9%. These are the figures from a recent study carried out by the Institute of Psychology at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).⠀
The body is a great sign of illness and a thermometer that helps us to realize or recognize that sometimes we are not well internally, whether due to stress, tiredness, pain, sadness or any other suffering.
Knowing this, oriental people always seek to prevent ill health, whether through a more balanced diet, exercise or even alternative therapies such as acupuncture, for example.
And why not follow suit here in the West?
Don't wait until you're physically or mentally ill to promote self-care. Taking loving care of ourselves is up to us.
We've put together some tips on how you can do this:
- Take time to enjoy life and family life.
- Maintain a healthy diet;
- Get a good night's sleep;
- Do physical activities;
- Seek professional help;
- Share your feelings with your friends;
- Take some time for yourself offline and remember the breaks from work and chores. Don't forget: you're not a superhero;
- Whenever possible, go out into nature;
