Engage your team using Theory U

In my courses, lectures and training sessions, I often apply a tool that has been generating more and more positive results, especially for companies. This is Theory U.

Theory U is a set of theories, tools and practices that help leaders tackle current problems, as well as generating innovation by driving deep collective learning processes.

The result of almost 10 years of work by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor and economist Otto Scharmer, one of today's leading experts on leadership.

It's a perfect tool to help implement changes and increase productivity in organizations.

The U-shaped process is divided into three phases: feeling, witnessing and realizing. The 'U' is the process of change, where the individual travels along a path to understand mental models of current reality. The bottom of the U is the space of reflection, with greater knowledge about oneself and one's environment, and now with the possibility of beginning the ascent of the U.

Companies committed to improving their systems, their culture and willing to make a conscious transition, thinking not just about productivity, but about developing the best in their teams, are already using effective methodologies such as Theory U.

Everyone wants a healthier working environment, but how do we put this into practice?

One of the concepts central to the U theory is called "presencing", a fusion of the English words "presence" and "sensing". The term refers to the ability to feel and bring someone's best potential future into the present.

It is precisely this competence that a good leader must lead the group to develop in the middle of the journey.

At the heart of the Theory U methodology is the development of a deep listening capacity - a listening in the present with an eye to the future that wants to emerge.

It presupposes a connection with a deep source of collective wisdom and creativity, based on three postures: an open mind, an open heart and an open will.

With the Mindfulness practices offered during the training sessions, employees and leaders improve and put these skills into practice. The state of presence and mindfulness in the here and now, as well as the ability to listen deeply, without judgment. Over time, it becomes natural and the changes are noticeable in interpersonal relationships, improved cognitive capacity and an increased ability to face challenges, which directly influences the results of work.
